Arlene Ashack, IBVM

Arlene Ashack, IBVM is a Guide for the Circles and participated in one of the original circles of Engaging Impasse, the Engaging Impasse Reunion, the Learning Lab and the Quantum Leap Conference.

Arlene is presently Director of Loretto Center, a conference/ retreat center in Wheaton, Illinois, and also Director of Loretto House, offering transitional housing to homeless women. Striving to embody the IBVM charism of Integrity, Justice and Freedom she represents the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, U.S. Province, as Coordinator of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation in the IBVM International Justice Network. In this role Arlene also sits on the Assembly of the 8th Day Center of Justice. Additionally, Arlene is a spiritual director and artist. Though trained as a painter and not a weaver she continually seeks new ways of weaving the creative process into the fabric of everyday life.

Arlene’s work/ministry experiences have taken her from Chicago, to Arizona, to California, to Toronto, Ontario to live and minister as teacher, parish pastoral associate, and Regional Director for Catholic Charities. Each place and position offered a wealth of cultural and professional experience she then brought with her as member of the IBVM Regional Leadership Team, and on to the position of Vicar General on the IBVM General Leadership Team.

Committed to the integration of body, mind and spirit Arlene has an MFA in Fine Arts, an MA in Visual Arts, an MA in Religious Studies, and a BA with a major in the fine arts. Knowing the necessity of creative leisure Arlene spends as much time as possible in the beauty of the outdoors, and indulges her love of poetry. An overflow, then, is sure to express itself on the canvas in her studio.
